About Us

AA: The Musical (A Production Most Definitely Not Authorized or Endorsed by A.A.W.S.) was born from a simple but unconventional idea: What if we could explore one of life’s most difficult subjects through laughter, music, and the extraordinary absurdity of being human?

Created and written by Candice Thiem, AA: The Musical (A Production Most Definitely Not Authorized or Endorsed by A.A.W.S.) is an original contemporary musical comedy that challenges conventional narratives about addiction and recovery. Rather than approaching these experiences solely through tragedy or despair, the production embraces the humor, contradictions, personalities, and unexpected humanity found along the way.

At its heart, the musical is not simply about alcoholism or Alcoholics Anonymous. It’s about the universal human experience: our fears, our defenses, our relationships, and the remarkable lengths we go to avoid confronting ourselves.

Through an eclectic original score, colorful characters, sharp satire, and emotionally honest storytelling, the production seeks to entertain audiences while inviting them to recognize something of themselves in the characters onstage.

Currently in development, AA: The Musical (A Production Most Definitely Not Authorized or Endorsed by A.A.W.S.) is an independent theatrical project built around a commitment to original storytelling, creative collaboration, and the belief that comedy and emotional truth can coexist—even when exploring life’s most challenging subjects.

Because sometimes the most profound truths arrive disguised as the biggest laughs.
